killed riding motorcycle in Dekalb- Speeding & risk

Someone who is killed or injured while riding a motorcycle occurs more than any other traffic accident in the Decatur (Dekalb County) area.  In fact, the Decatur (DeKalb County) area has one of the highest percentages of a motorcycle rider being killed in Georgia.

Specifically, “29 percent of all motorcyclist fatalities from 2004-2008 occurred in Atlanta Metro areas; including Dekalb County, Fulton County, Cobb, DeKalb, and Clayton counties.” This information was collected from The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.  According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention,  “Motorcyclist death rates increased 55% from 2001 to 2008”.

Motorcycle riders in the Decatur (Dekalb Country) area should take precautions to prevent being killed or injured while riding their motorcycles.  Driving the speed limit can help avoid being killed or injured if you are riding a motorcycle in the Decatur (Dekalb County) area. “27% of the motorcycle operators killed were speeding at the time of the crash compared to 63 (4%) of the drivers of the passenger vehicles who were speeding” according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
